Winter Olympic - Venn diagram

Toady Nyjah and I finished off our our venn diagranm. In this we compared and contrasted the values from our school and the Winter Olympics. We were able to to complete this in  the time given to finish off. I think we were able to work together well because we collaborated well.

PBS Whakatauki

Our schools Whakatauki is Manaaki Whenua, Manaaki Tangata Haere Whakamua. This means Care for our land, Care our people Go forward. Using our school's whakatauki I was able explore what those values mean and how to show them.

Art Class - Tech

Today was our second day at tech doing Art. Before we were able to move on to the next task Mrs Telefoni gave us 15 minutes to finish off our assigned task from last week. Then she gave us a piece of paper and a bit of square wood. Next we had to section our paper into 5. After that with the help of the internet we got to search up different photos that we best think represent us. I thought today's session was fun because we got to have the opportunity to draw our own designs and look at different ones to trace.

Kiwi Sport - Softball

Today was our first day of Softball with Alison. She came all the way from the Auckland Softball Club. She taught us a various types of skills that are used in Softball if we were to  play. She also told us that is we were interested in playing more of this sport then to join a near by cub somewhere here in Auckland. Magenta and I where partners together during our session. Were learnt how to catch throw and more. I really enjoyed our session at Kiwi Sport.

Kiwi Can Reflection

Today we had Kiwi Can with Mr Matt and Miss Lily featuring Mr Ben. We where learning about positive relationships and respect. We played games that showed these actions. The first game we played was Hoop T Hoop. Mr Matt numbered us off one to four. If Miss Lily called our number out then we would have to go around the outside of the circle. The twist was we weren't allowed to run we had to speed walk. After a heart racing competition we all sat back down to reflect on our Kiwi Can session.

Olympic values

This afternoon Nyjah and I were looking at the differences between our school and the Winter Olympics. We looked on the official Olympic site to find the answers on. Using that site we found different information to add in to our work. We had to find out about the creed, motto and values. Then finally we added our school logo and the Olympic flag. I thought this was a very easy but yet tough challenge to do, because some information was easier to find than others.

Te Wiki Summary

Yesterday afternoon Sky and I started this DLO for reading about Te Wiki (The week before the Treaty Of Waitangi). Together we collaborated together and accepted each others ideas. Using the six most important we were able  to create a summary with those six words. We tried to make sure that our work makes sense. Before we could get to work we read a digitalised book to support our work when we start the summary.

Chinese New Year

How Is Chinese New Year Celebrated?

Like every other Country in the world we all celebrate something different. Today we are celebrating Chinese New Year. How did this very old tradition begin? There are a lot of different stories, but which is true? Well here's what we know about this celebration.

This day is a very special day that people all around the world are welcome to celebrate. The Chinese New Year Celebration lasts up to 15 days straight. It starts on a New moon and ends on a Full moon. People come together and feast on delicious foods like Egg Rolls, Noodles, and Shrimp. These foods are usually eaten on these days.

Hongbao (money inside a red envelope) is given to children and unmarried adults for good luck and wealth. On the last very last day of the celebration people light lanterns. This symbolises the people who have passed on.

Long ago there was an scary dragon that went by the name Meien. He went to the village nearby and scared everyone the animals too. One day a wise man came along and told the people “Meien is very scared of loud sounds, fire and the colour red”. The dragon went back to the village the next day and he gazed upon the people wearing red clothing. The people started to light torches, let off firecrackers and lanterns. The dragon began to get frightened and ran away further and further from the village. That is when the people from China started wearing red and gold on these days.

There are different animals for the 12 years in the cycle. This legend is very old as well. Once there lived an Jade Emperor. He couldn't choose just 12 animals to symbolize the different years. So he set a race. The Jade Emperor said the first 12 animals to reach his palace were the animals to represent the years. So the animals began the race, the Rat as coming first until he came across a river. Luckily the Ox was just around the corner. So the Ox carried the Rat on top of his head. But just as they were about to reach land the Rat jumped off his head and won the race. That is why the Rat is the first animal in our calendar and this year, 2018, is the year of the dog.

All of us celebrate something different. But that doesn't mean that the fun is over. That means anyone can join in the fun and entertainment. This is a very old tradition that  is exciting and will be celebrated in the following years to come.

Yesterday we learnt about Chinese New Year. Hajera and I were in pairs to complete this explanation. As I am in a different writing group than Hajera I had to help her in ways that will support her learning. I think we worked well together because we cooperated and collaborated. Yesterday we started our explanation and today we were just doing the finishing touches. This is what we have been able to complete.

Art Tech with Mrs Telefoni

Today was our very first tech rotation at Tamaki College. Today I was in art with Mrs Telefoni. First we had to get into groups on our table. In that group we had to write symbols that we see in everyday. Then we had to make a google slide to put together symbols that represent us and why.

Summary - Treaty of waitangi

This week for reading we have been looking at the treaty of waitangi. This was a reading task that we did in groups. Nyjah, Fui, Viva, Savelina and I were in one group. We all read a story on this day came about. Next we wrote the vocab words we didn't understand or wanted to learn more about. Using the words that we wrote down we came up with 20 words then out of that 20 we had to choose the 6 most important words and turn it into a short summary of the story.

Kiwi Can

Today was our first rotation of kiwi can. We have new kiwi can teachers Miss Lily and Mr Matt. Our focus this week was encouragement. We played a variety of games that show what encouragement looks like. We played ball tag. You are set into groups and one of those groups starts of with the ball. They are not allowed to move or throw it at the person they are trying to get. You only have 10 seconds to get as most people out. Which ever group gets the most people out is the winning team. I had fun at kiwi can this week and I am looking forward to go next week.

What Is My Morning Routine?

What Is My Morning Routine?

As you might already know everybody in this chaotic world has a morning routine. Weather it be getting up and having a shower or just getting changed. But I'm pretty sure that not everyone has the same routine they follow. Here is what my morning routine looks like.

To start off this routine I wake up to my alarm. Then I walk to the end of the hallway to turn on the shower. Next I get my clothes ready to jump in. I stay in the shower for about 5 to 10 minutes before I finally hop out and get dressed.

Now at this stage I usually have breakfast. For breakfast I either have rice bubbles or corn flakes. But sometime I like to have lasts nights dinner. That’s if there is anymore of course. With the help of a Milo I re-energize my body before we head off to school.

Once all of us finish getting ready and have our bags on our back. We all head out the door ready for the school work that is yet to come. The car is running and we have made sure we've cleaned up our rooms we jump in the car ready to leave home and come to school.

Like I said before everybody has a morning routine. But they might be similar in some way. If you are like me and don't do very much in the morning than there is very little to say. This was my morning routine and the steps I do in the morning.

On Tuesday we did writing. For writing we had the choice to either do our morning routine or how we walk to school. I chose to do my morning routine because I think that I do more in this time. This is an explanation. A explanation is a writing task that is written in present tense, meaning it is written in words that are happening.

Winter Olympic Mascots

This week Nyjah, Jeremiah and I started off our inquiry session by comparing two different mascots from the Winter Olympics. We chose to compare the modern white tiger Soohorang that will be show cased in South Korea for this years Winter Olympics, and a snow leopard from the 2014 Winter Olympics. Once we all  discussed on what mascots we decided to do we had to do a bit of research these mascots. After a while we compared these two animals. It was good working with different people. But with all of our co-operation we were able to finish assigned tasks.

Winter Olympics Venn Diagram

Yesterday afternoon Nyjah, Jeremiah and I created a DLO on the Winter Olympics. We compared the 1924 Olympics to the modern Olympics and the similarities of the both of them. Writing as much as we could yesterday we came up with enough information to compare them with. One of the similarities we came up with was that they both had opening and closing ceremonies.

Blog Post Analysis

Yesterday we created a blog post analysis. In this we had to make a bar graph about all the posts we have done during the time we have been at this school. With an analysis we had to explain why we have that much posts on our blogs. Last year I only did 125 blog posts. That is because I would get distracted very easily and forget to finish. I have added goals that I want to archive this year. I am trying to stay focused ore when doing my work by choosing sense able people to sit by when working. As I have not been at this school for very long I have done very little. Here is my blog analysis.

Where am I?

Today is the first day of school and 2018 has landed and so has our first rotation of writing. Our class had  to come up with seven sentences on what I felt, heard,  saw and  wondered. Thinking back to the holidays we had write what we did during the this time without giving to much information away but giving just enough about what we were doing. Here is my holiday in seven sentences. Can you guess what I did over the summer break?
